It’s a meme. While the news media goes manic and the experts intone national security crisis, while people congratulate Biden for his deft decision-making, while the Pentagon gets glories for its magnificent defeat of a floating orb, while the pundits find something in all of this to blame Trump, and while a second balloon — a third! one over Latin America! — appears on the scene, to the American people, the Chinese Spy Balloon became a joke. The memes started almost immediately, Saturday Night Live did its usual unfunny thing, the balloon ballooned into punchline of the week, the month, the year. It will play in the Super Bowl.
The Balloon Defense System (BDS) is already forming like protozoa out of the funding ooze. Someone is already conceiving the Strategic Atmospheric Gap (SAG) that needs to be plugged. The Congressional hearings will probe, mangle, and misdirect. The General in charge of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will explain that this is a complicated matter with difficult decisions requiring close study and careful action.
In none of it, will anyone really answer the question that all of America is wondering: How did that balloon reach America in the first place? After 9/11 they were supposed to have fixed the air defenses, and they supposedly did, continuing to today with Operation Noble Eagle, something that has already cost the American public somewhere close to $30 billion. And our so-called intelligence community? We pay them endless billions more and again they failed. Again. Failed to do their job. No heads will roll — all of it will just drift nicely to earn them even more money and allow Washington to continue to do its thing.
By the way, there are no sensitive military installations, nothing that isn’t already known already. Every missile silo is known. That falsehood is the fundamental premise that has assisted in creating the fake national security crisis in the first place. There’s some connection in all of this between all of this and those classified documents, something that is so ancient and loose-lips-sink-ships irrelevant to make sure that the bureaucracy remains supreme, more important than the elected leaders, and the machine that runs our lives.
Here are the memes. I found them edifying and hilarious and enervating at the same time. The American people get it. They know its all a joke.
Funny memes. Thanks for sharing
Many issues imbedded in this post. I will say that I agree with you with respect to the “classified documents” and any connection with other entities who have responded with distrust over the irresponsibility of how they have been handled. https://fas.org/blogs/secrecy/2020/12/declassify-everything/. That post from Steven Aftergood appeared 3 weeks before the Nashville bombing, which was never declared an act of terrorism. The merchants of 2nd Avenue who did not have a “terrorism” rider on their insurance would have been devastated.
